Smoothie Extravaganza

I’ve already spilled my secret smoothie smoothie recipe (pun intended), but I’m here to share more recipes. I could drink smoothies for every meal if my mom would let me.  My mom tries to limit my smoothie intake to one a day because of my “acidity intake,” probably just an excuse to not slave for me and make me food. Smoothies are a great on the go meal to fill you up and provide you with energy and vital vitamins. I love raw veggies, but for those of you who are grossed out by greens, put them in your smoothie, you won’t even taste them!  If you drink fruity smoothies, I dare you to had a handful or two of spinach, punch me if you taste it.

Does an Apple a Day REALLY Keep the Doctor Away?

I love apples, they are great in desserts, juices, with peanut butter, cinnamon, or just alone! Studies show apples prevent cancer, tooth decay, and heart diseases. Apple has substances called phytonutrients, and these phytonutrients prevents neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinsonism.  Many people don’t know how good apples are for you, they may be high in sugar but they are low in calories  and loaded with vitamins. Apples are a delicious way to intake your daily dose of essential vitamins. You will be able to get the benefits of these properties individually with other fruits, but an apple combines everything and makes it simpler. The juice of the apples has properties that can kill up to 80% of bacteria. So there you have it, an apple a day also keeps the dentist away! Eating apples is part of balanced and healthy diet than will increase your longevity, so why not have an apple a day.

Vitamin Water is not so Vital

Is Vitamin Water good for you or should you be drinking something else? Recently I’ve realized how high the sugar content is in fruit juices and sodas. Although Vitamin Water seems to be somewhat healthier than most fruit juices, I did some research on the drink. My results were not surprising, basically Vitamin Water is a better alternative than soda and most processed fruit juices, but still contains many calories and unwanted chemicals. I drink Vitamin Water on occasions, I try to stick with water but the light, refreshing taste of the drink is satisfying every once and a while. My favorite flavor is the dragon fruit, also known as power-c. Each flavor has different vitamins or supposedly helps with boosting energy or concentration. Who really knows if the delicious kiwi strawberry drink helps you focus, I think it’s more of a placebo effect. Anyways, to wrap this thing up, Vitamin Water is fine to drink once and a while, but don’t rely on the fruity, sugary drink for your vitamin intake.

Foods to Kick Your Cold!

Unfortunately the common cold got me this year, along with many others, here are some healthy foods to help kick it!

-Garlic – Garlic does not just keep vampires and witches away, it fights viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections. It also enhances the immune system and has anti-tumor features. No wonder Ancient Egyptians considered it holy and used it as currency!

-Oranges – Loaded with Vitamin C, oranges can help boost your immune system and decrease the duration of your cold!

-Yogurt  – Believe it or not yogurt is an important food to eat while sick and after being sick. Yogurt with live cultures contain probiotics which can increase your white blood cell count, boosting your immune system.

-Chicken Noodle Soup –  Studies have shown that chicken noodle soup helps thin mucus secretions and the carbs help maintain energy levels. If you’re going with a can, make sure to check the sodium, high levels of salt can dehydrate your body!

Even if you haven’t caught the cold or flu, stay loaded with Vitamins to keep your immune system strong!
